Carving and Painting a Feather Pin
The subject is a wood duck sidepocket feather.
Items to bring with you:
Your favorite carving knife
A desk lamp
Magnifier glasses
Woodburning pencil w/ wire tips & heat control (if you already have one).
A hair dryer
I will provide:
Carving blanks
Abrasive cloth
Brushes
Paints
Pin findings
Two woodburning stations
Two rotary tools w/ sanding disks & a dust collector
In the morning, we will shape the feather blank using tools of your choice and abrasive cloth. We will then texture the feather with a wood burning tool and seal the feather with a protective coating.
In the afternoon, we will paint the feather pin, apply a protective finish and attach a pin finding.
There should be sufficient time to make more than one feather pin, if you wish.
